Saved by the Eagles

Have you ever had a problem with Mother Nature? The dwarves and Bilbo sure have! One of their many conflicts is when they are stuck in trees. They are stuck in trees because the wargs were about to attack them. Then when they thought it couldn’t get any worse, the goblins showed up! When they were about to get eaten by the wargs, Gandalf started picking off the wargs one by one with fiery pinecones. Then the goblins started to set the trees on fire. Right when they were about to get burned alive, the Lord Of The Eagles and his eagle friends showed up. They swooped down and picked up all the dwarves and Bilbo, and took them back to a cliff. They finally got to have a meal and a good rest. The next day the eagles took them away again and then they were off to Beorn’s house. Tolkein uses this to move the story forward because he made it exiting and you wanted to keep reading. Not only was it exciting but when the eagles came it moved the story along so he wouldn’t have to explain their boring journey to Beorn’s house. I really like how tolkein keeps the story exciting and there is never a dull part.

This was a good conflict! I can see why you would choose this one. However, it is not really a conflict between a character and mother nature. This conflict is between two characters - wargs&goblins vs. dwarf troupe. If it was between nature and the dwarves, then the trees would be attacking them! I agree that Tolkien certainly knows how to use conflict!
